Abstract
The purpose of this research is to identify the affects cultural biases have on the student-teacher relationship. Cultural biases can be defined as “the phenomenon of interpreting and judging by standards inherent to one’s own culture.” The first phase of this project involved looking into the works of Kenneth Tyler, Ruby Stevens, and Aesha Uqdah, Angelina Sabrina Maynard, Judith Oller, Ignasi Vila, and Benjamin Zufiaurre, Paul J. Colbert, “Culture is integral to the learning process. It is the organization and way of life within the community of students and teachers and directs the way they communicate, interact, and approach teaching and learning.”( Colbert., 2010) However, according to the author schools and institutions of higher education have not been programmed to address and operate efficiently within a racially diverse student body. In this particular research the author goes ahead to state a way in which to help the classrooms as a whole to become more cohesiveness, he states that by “focusing on the essential components of personalizing culture through the five institutions of family, school, religion, politics, and economics”( Colbert., 2010) that one’s institution can become better equip for all students. This article opposes the other arguments, as it does not simply state that cultural biases affect the student-teacher relationship, rather this article offers advice and ideas to help in strengthening the relationship between students and teachers of different
