African American Education Research Paper

The topic I chose to explore is the education of our African American males. The areas that are focused on are middle school to college level education. This paper also focuses on curriculum that could be offered to help our black male students excel in the classroom. Most of our African American students live in poverty, which in turn sets a number of them up to be failures in school. Some students realize the need of an education, but others fall into the cracks and by the time they are willing to come out or at least try to do better it is too late. Also, insight is given to why black male students are unmotivated in the classroom.
We have to realize that cultural tendencies impact the way children participate in education. The influence of culture on beliefs about education, the value of education, and participation also play a part in how our students perform. Black culture is hard to define because it can be looked at in several ways. Being black in America involves a process of moving through and adopting from a variety cultures. I have turned on my television countless times and have seen young black men arrested from crimes and all I can do is shake my head and wonder what has happened to my race. I wanted to explore this topic to see if there are any solutions to getting black males connected to their education. I am big on education and I know that everyone is not college material, but others should at least learn a trade and be productive citizens. One problem that I see is that a lot of males are not getting their basic education and this is due to a lot of factors in their lives.
