Cruelty Against Doodle

I, Sophie Artino, am here to make sure Brother is locked up behind bars. I hope he suffers every minute of the rest of his life. Doodle would still be here with us today if it wasn’t for the selfishness and cruelty of his brother. The narrator showed cruelty toward Doodle, he didn’t care for him, and, worst of all, he ran away from Doodle and left him behind during the storm. If this trial ends the way it should, Brother will be in Jail when it ends. First off, the narrator has shown cruelty toward Doodle and doesn’t seem to care. If he was kind toward Doodle from the start, he would’ve been more careful with him which would’ve prevented his death. As Brother once said, “It was bad enough having an invalid brother, but having one who was …show more content…
This shows, the narrator wouldn’t even care if he died. Brother has said some terrible stuff about his brother such as, “He was born when I was six and was, from the outset, a disappointment.” (Hurst, 1) From the start, when Doodle was born, the narrator already didn’t show compassion for him and called him a disappointment. Additionally, Doodle explained to me that brother said he’d “leave [him] here by [himself],-” (Hurst, 4) Brother is reckless when it comes to Doodle. Also, in his interview, Brother said, “Renaming my brother was perhaps the kindest thing I ever did for him, because nobody expects much from someone called Doodle.” (Hurst, 3) Brother renamed Doodle, so nobody would expect anything from him, not out of kindness. This sounds exactly like something an eager, rude person would do. All in all, the narrator shows no mercy for his actions and wouldn’t show mercy for the death of Doodle …show more content…
Brother left Doodle behind and ran away from him right before the time of his death. If he was there for him, Doodle’s death would’ve been prevented. Brother “ran as fast as [he] could leaving [Doodle] far behind-” (Hurst, 11) The narrator left his brother alone in the rain during a storm. If he had just thought about someone other than himself, he could have made sure Doodle was safe. In addition to brother leaving Doodle behind, records indicate Doodle called for his brother to stay, “Brother, brother, don’t leave me! Don’t leave me!” (Hurst, 11) The narrator ignored Doodle’s calls and since he left him, Doodle was unprotected and alone, and he died. Last but not least, when we were interviewing Brother, he told us Doodle “Limply, fell backwards onto the Earth. He had been bleeding from the mouth, and his neck and the front of his shirt were stained a brilliant red.” (Hurst, 12) The only time the narrator cared enough to go back for Doodle, it was too late. He was in terrible conditions. Doodle’s death was all brother’s fault since he ditched him during the storm and wasn’t there to protect him. Overall, the narrator was cruel to Doodle, didn’t truly care for him, and he ditched him right before the event of his death. Brother’s life should be ruined the way Doodle’s was for what he has done. Thank you for your

There was noting that the family could have done to stop his death. Know they can be happy that they achieved many miracles with doodle, like him being able…

The author explains, “Doodle and I spent lots of time thinking about the future,” (349) the text goes on and explains how they would build a house in the swamp, let Momma and Dad live there too if they wanted. If Brother wanted doodle to die, he wouldn't have spent all of his time and focus preparing a “terrific development plan for him” (349). Brother was really trying to help Doodle. Shouldn't brother had been happy when his plan succeeded in killing Doodle? The text clearly states that he was devastated at the sight of Doodles death.…

From the beginning of the story, Brother sees Doodle as a weak resemblance of his own character. In Brother’s eyes, Doodle needs “fixing.” Brother states that, “When Doodle was five years old, I was embarrassed at having a brother of that age who couldn’t walk, so I set out to teach him” (Hurst, 489). Brother’s pride is the spark that starts the flame of Doodle’s downfall.…

I believe that it's was the narrator’s fault for Doodle’s death because the narrator was always pushing him, to get better, all the time. The narrator was always making Doodle do things that he couldn’t do so he always had work hard. He made Doodle learn how to walk and swim and do other things that the doctor said that he wouldn’t be able to do. The only reason the narrator made Doodle do this was so he could have a normal brother and so he wouldn't have to carry him around anymore. That’s why I believe it is the narrator's fault for Doodle’s death.…

I believe that the narrator is guilty of manslaughter and negligence in the second degree. To prove my prosecution I have created three main points that show how the narrator is an evil brother that only cared about his own interests. My first point is the reasoning for Doodle’s training. On page 6 the narrator says “They didn’t know I did it for myself”. This is direct proof of how the narrator had his own selfish motives for training Doodle.…
