The deadly disease of influenza, spread quickly, leaving those on the home front exposed to a disease that would kill three to six percent of the world 's population. Many who contracted influenza were at the least weakened, if not dead. The loss of so many lives supports this label of the “Lost Generation.” Many lives were lost to this disease and even those who were lucky enough to survive were weakened, leaving jobs undone and more work for others. The loss of those on the home front changed the community and the lives of many families, leaving the generation at an even bigger deficit.
Clearly, the label of the “Lost Generation” is supported by many losses that were faced after the Great War. The Lost Generation experienced challenge after challenge, leading to a decrease in the population and an overall lack of ability for many to contribute to the society. The era between the two world wars had to learn to cope with a broken world in a way that many of us today are unable to understand. The title of the “Lost Generation” truly includes the reality of the era, the losses that were faced because of World War One and the power consuming events that leads to yet another devastating world
