FDR wanted to foster the friendship with his neighbors by the withdrawal of U.S. military forces and limiting American interference. However, Cold war tension brought the U.S. involvement back into Latin America. Before the Cold War countries like Cuba was America 's playground and vacation spot. A revelation was taking place in Cuba which permitted Fidel Castro a Communist politician to become the new leader of Cuba. The USSR saw this as an opportunity to make an alliance with Castro. As a result of this new alliance, the U.S. saw Cuba as a threat and tried to overthrow the Cuban socialist government with The Bay of Pigs Invasion which failed.
