What Events Portray Containment
America fights communism by containing European countries and attempting to pull them away from a troublesome future. During WWⅡ Adolf Hitler brought communism to Germany. At the same time, Joseph Stalin was doing the same. But Hitler was killing more lives with communism than America could save with capitalism. So Truman and Stalin joined forces to try and save lives. Three ways America portrayed containment are the Berlin Airlift, Korean War, and Cuban Missile Crisis.
The Berlin Airlift was an example of containment because America sent recourses to West Berlin, kept them from surrendering to Stalin and won the silent battle and freed them from communism. America sent everything food, clothing, coal, even …show more content…
America tried to contain Cuba after communism took over. They also sent planes to keep an eye on Soviet ships headed to Cuba. Both America and the Soviet Union both removed their missiles from other countries. In 1959 Cuba becomes communist under Fidel Castro (Doc D). Because America wants to contain communism they invade but fail and therefore Castro stays in power (Doc D). When the Soviets secretly started sending 40,000 troops, 60 missiles and 158 nuclear warheads the U.S. sent spy planes to keep an eye out for the missiles. They didn't want Cuba to have missiles with how close they were to the border of Florida. To stop this crisis the U.S. announced a quarantine against ships carrying offensive weapons to Cuba. This stopped the Soviets dead in the tracks just outside of the quarantine lines. The soviets removed their missiles and the U.S agrees to remove there's from Turkey. This contained communism from spreading past Cuba and into America by removing the threat.
