Rachel heavily disapproved on Leah’s actions and this became evidently apparently when she states, “I did not appreciate all that we were being put through, just because of Leah.” (Kingsolver 341). Leah may have been keeping a distance from her family, but her outbreak creates its own kind of war within her family. If Leah wouldn’t have ever turned her back on Nathan and his views, no one would have been in a situation like this to begin with. There would have still been the ant invasion which lead to the following plan to kill animals for food, but all ideals within the society would have still been intact if Leah and Anatole had never gotten involved. The hunt would have occurred, but the way they take everything into their own hands to benefit themselves is what truly causes the event to happen. If Leah had never of turned her back on her father, she would have never received this attitude that led her to try to fight with the men. If Anatole had never gotten her the bow to shoot with in the first place and helped argue Leah’s side, every community ideal that they had lived by for so long would have never been upturned for the worst. Overall, the hunt would have never gotten as out of control as it otherwise
