The information in this paper will discuss the comparison and contrast between Michelangelo’s Pieta and Leonardo da Vinci’s Mona Lisa. The elements of composition of each artist and what was unique about the artistic choices made by da Vinci and Michelangelo that led to their continuing popularity will be discussed also. The discussion about one’s personally believes to be the ideas and values present in each work.
Compare and Contrast
The comparison between both Michelangelo and Leonardo da Vinci is both were Italian artists of the Renaissance period that desired to reestablish art to its novel glory in Rome (www.answers. com, 2015). Both artists had a passion for creating visual works of art. Michelangelo Buonarroti’s work of art is the Pieta is a sculpture. Leonardo da Vinci’s Mona Lisa is a painting. Italy and Europe in the 16th century was influenced by the works by both Michelangelo and Leonardo da Vinci. Each created works of art that remain great masterpieces today in the 21st century. The contrast or difference in the works of each artist was the way each chose to return art in Rome to its novel glory. Sculptures and drawings of the human body was how Michelangelo chose to restore art to its glory. Leonardo da Vinci chose to restore it by using a point of view of science.
