Emerson talks about the importance in being yourself rather than who society tells you to be. I feel like many people today worry too much about being who others want them to be rather than just being their true self. For some reason their is a huge motive to follow the crowd and the trends in society. Emerson says, “Trust thyself: every heart vibrates to that iron string” to show the importance in being yourself. He says you are strongest when you are being who you truly are. Emerson often talks about how society tries to break down non conformist. To be a nonconformist is to be strong willed. One of my favorite quotes that really spoke out to me was when he said, “To be great is to be misunderstood”. I often think of how nobody believed in Steve Jobs with his startup company which has now become the world's most important company. Steve Jobs was different and most people did not understand how he could be successful. You will be most successful if you choose to be who you truly are and trust
