This shows how Buck wanted to reach his goal of being the best sled dog. Buck was faced with a persevering moment on page eighty “Buck had sprung in on the instant; and at the end of three hundred yards, amid a mad swirl of water, he overhauled Thornton.” This part in the book is talking about when Buck saved John's life when he was stuck in the rapids.
