Once the Gestapo had enough information, they arrested and savagely punished the criminal (USHMM). Stalin, had a very similar mindset when he created his secret police. The Cheka was the name of the secret police that served Stalin. In the book The Secret Police, author Ted Gottfried explains, “the Cheka role in Stalin’s Communist country was to probe around all the citizens of Russia and capture and punish any citizen suspected of anti-government activity” (par 2).
