Post-colonialism is defined in anthropology as the relations between European nations and areas they colonized and once ruled. It is a dynamic, diverse and social movement that is concerned with the representations of women in colonized societies. It focuses on the construction of gender differences during colonization in both colonial or anti- colonial discourse. Postcolonial feminism explores the intersections of colonialism with gender, nation, class and race. It has emerged in response to Western mainstream feminism to bring into light the typicality of problems of women of the Third world nations. Western feminism has never been attentive to the differences pertaining to class, race, and settings of women of colonized territories. In this respect, postcolonial feminism rejects Western feminism on the ground of its sheer “eurocentricism” and because The Western feminism cannot be inclusive for all women. While Western feminists suggest unity and solidarity under sexism and women’s common feeling of oppression, postcolonial feminism successfully attempts to carry women across national borders, across gender, race and class. The double colonization and marginalization of women are fundamental elements that can be seen in postcolonial works. kristen Holst Petesen and Anna Rutherford have coined the term “double colonization” in their collection A Double colonization : colonial and Post- Colonial Women’s Writing (Dangaroo,1986) to refer to women’s consistence experience of colonial and patriarchal oppression. Othering is a dialectical process because both the colonizing and colonized other affect each other and their relationship is highly interrelated. This research aims at focusing on the multiple female identities in different colonized societies , the impacts of the notion of double colonization of women and at investigating the ways in which the novels: Season of Migration to the North, Things fall Apart and the Inheritance contribute to the concepts and objectives of the postcolonial and feminism literature. Each novel characterizes the relationship between the oppressors and oppressed females differently .They are based on the damaging effects of a colonial history; nevertheless at once portray women who suffer from subordination and oppression within their own communities; and /or portray women as being doubly or triply colonized. This proposal will rely on postcolonial, feminist and genealogy methodologies and aims to prove that those women’s different experiences of double colonization and their multiple postcolonial identities lead to a multiple representation of post -colonialism literature.
