Cognitive Behavioural Therapy is a goal oriented therapy (Beck, 1967) which allows the patient and therapist to work closely in creating long-term goals. CBT will teach Mrs. Brown coping strategies, it will help her learn how to identify her present problems, break them down and learn how to solve them (Beck, 1967). CBT is delivered as one-on-one sessions with the therapist, role playing, and homework. CBT will help Mrs. Brown control her negative thoughts that are caused by the depression (Yong, Weinberger & Beck, 2001). Mrs. Brown symptoms will be re-evaluated by providing her with a diary to keep a track of her thoughts during the 8-12 weeks period and her homework will be taken into consideration to see if the herbal is working.
Mrs. Brown’s sleeping and eating habits will be taken into consideration to find out if her fatigue is still existing or she has more energy and is able to enjoy herself. Her gaining or losing weight will also be monitored to make sure there are no side effects from the herbal medication (Qaseem, Snow, Denberg, Fociea & Owens, 2008). The treatment can be anywhere between 6-12 months based on the insurance, health care coverage or funding. Mrs. Brown symptoms will be re-evaluated between 14-16 weeks to make sure she has learned and is able to use the coping strategies and is able to control her negative thoughts and feelings. Mrs. Brown would be discharged once all the long-term goals that were set in the beginning are accomplished and observed that she has gained control over her illness (Qaseem, Snow, Denberg, Fociea & Owens,
