One of the techniques that are used is Mise-en-scene. In this film, there is the functioning of the setting in highlighting of the Kane’s life. There is also the good use of the makeup and the costume for example characters getting old were revolutionary for its time. Also in citizen cane, staging is significant for instance conveying of the great depth by of the field by Welles. Also, there is the use of shadow and light. For example, the investigator by the name Thompson is on shadow always.
The cinematography is also used in citizen Kane. This is the process through which the moving images are captured on film and how the images are developed. In the film an example of where cinematography is used is the deep focus, which enables the shot's foreground and background to be simultaneously in focus by the use of lighting, lens choice and composition.
