Argumentative Essay On Into The Wild

Sometimes, no matter how experienced, or prepared, an explorer may be, nature can still get the best of the explorer and lead them into a fatal error. A young adventurer named Christopher McCandless is a prime example of this statement, however, he had no experience and went into his adventure very unprepared. Christopher McCandless’s memory is kept alive by the biography, Into the Wild, written by Jon Krakauer. In Krakauer’s book, Into the Wild, he recalls the brief life of Christopher McCandless as he embarks on a great crusade to fulfill his lifelong dream of living in the Alaskan bush. A few weeks after hiking into the bush, however, McCandless was found dead in bus 142 by the Sushana River by a hunting party. All that remains of McCandless’s abnormal life are his journal and personal accounts from the people that loved and cared for him. The beginning of Into the Wild can be characterized as when Christopher McCandless decided to embark on his great crusade to Alaska to live off the land for the summer, and all of the hardships he endured during his expedition. The middle of Into the Wild is broken into three subdivisions. In the first division, Christopher McCandless wondered crossed the Savannah River, which was more like a babbling brook at the time. In the second division, Krakauer enlightens the reader with information regarding the hunting and foraging McCandless did to gain food and supplies. In the final division, McCandless’s body began to deteriorate from lack of food and harsh conditions. Then the conclusion of Into the Wild is a description of how Christopher McCandless is life met an early demise because his body physically could not sustain life.
