Doctors and nurses recommended the young parents that a Do Not Resuscitate order be stored in Charlottes chart. Mitchell wrote, "The nurses and doctors thought she should die peacefully"(480). For 16 months Charlotte was in and out of the hospital, ER and the pediatric nursing home. Her helpless body tried to flat line, each time doctors did all they could to stabilize her. Charlotte became weaker with each process. Charlotte's parents were optimistic now that there were no longer in a 3rd world country, where health insurance and health care doesn't exist to the poor. If doctors had an alternative medical treatment, she wouldn’t have suffered the in the manner that she did. If her parents could've accepted the extent of their daughter health, they could have had closer with her death been by her side the night she passed. We never want to see a loved one terminally ill or make a difficult decision on whether or not sign a DNR but we also don’t want them to suffer. There comes a time in our lives where we have to think of others no matter how much it will hurt
