I know people that have read this quote and jumped to attack the Christian community. I want to put aside the politics of it all in this discussion. Instead, I am interested in examining the critics of Christianity through the lens of this quote. I do not believe that Stephen is attacking Christians. I do think, however, that he is attacking the behavior of our American identity. So, why are non-Christians on the attack all over social media? This quote is significant in looking at why Christianity is/has been criticized. I am asking the question though: Is it Christianity itself, or some other variable? I have read different responses to this post. From one point of view, I have seen that this quote interpreted to criticize the Christian community (perhaps leaders of the church as well) by accusing American Christians of not practicing what they preach/believe in. The non-Christian observer will suggest that Christianity in America is more of an inward approach to the religion. In other words, they are more involved in their own self-righteousness, than helping humanity. Going to church, repenting for their sins, and giving money to the church, is all about their own salvation and not to help others (the
