Firstly, Timson outright begins her article with a sarcasm tone. Thereby, her use of sarcastic language shows bias against the couple’s decision. “Bravo to the parents for sparking controversy” (Timson, 2011, para. 1). Here she basically uses this statement as a negative way to ridicule the couple for their decision. I doubt that the parents wanted their decision to be a public debate. However, I think Timson contradicted herself because in her last paragraph she added that she would not deny her children their biological gender identity she would be proud to let the world know the gender. On the other hand, she stated that “I tried to give our children the message that so-called gender stereotypes were there to be ignored, fought against or even embraced, if they wished, on a case-by-case basis” (Timson, 2011, para. 20). Since as she and her husband educate their children about gender stereotypes, this implies that they do recognize the impact that it has on an individual’s life.
