A well known professional baseball player Babe Ruth once said, “The way a team plays as a whole determines its success. You may have the greatest bunch of individual stars in the world, but if they don 't play together, the club won 't be worth a dime.” This quote relates to cheerleading because individuals have to work together to achieve their goals and success. Everybody has their own individual talent, but when they are brought together and use teamwork to create something incredible. Cheerleading is a sport that calls for having good spirit, teamwork and a good work ethic. Most people hear the word cheerleading and think of it as just a hobby or something easy to do in your free time, but there are many things most people don 't know about cheerleading. Cheerleading is actually over a hundred years old, even George W. Bush was a cheerleader. Competitive cheerleading was not considered as an official sport as of 2013. For competitive cheerleading to be considered a sport, the NCAA must approve it. Some of the rules of cheerleading are that there always has to be a coach present while a high school practice is in session. Another rule is if a partner stunt is taking place, both the flyer and the base are not allowed to hold any type of prop. All cheerleaders individually need to be loud to make sure the team is heard by the crowd. Most cheerleaders are involved in another sport whether it is during cheer season or off of cheer season.
