As the presidential race began many citizens began to choose a side either the Republican Party or the Democratic Party and of course there were those that opted for neither. Granted that each individual began to choose their side the nation began to divide slowing and slowing. In the case of The Great Dictator the division was a command of Adenoid Hynkel by segregating all Jews living in Germany. In contrast, the division of nation in The Great Election was not directly a command of an official government but an influential freedom of speech. During the race, many racial comments were made and use as backfired to diminish each candidates capabilities to run a nation. As many witnessed the exchange of opinions and actions to judge one another the tension amongst the nation grew and open the doors to hate, racism and violence. The reinvented script of Chaplin’s film gives an opportunity to open our minds to what are the nation’s children are pondering and silently asking to stop all the madness. Chaplin’s films open the door to reinvent our current actions and seek that child within us. For instance, the similarity of the character names in The Great Election with the current political runners in the elections just as Chaplin mocked the Adolf Hitler on his film. At the same time the slogan’s used by Mr. Donald Duck and Mrs. Hyacinth Hippo are similar to the ones use on the 2016 election. At the beginning it was difficult to convert a controversial and sensitive event into a comical scene, but given the great example of Chaplin the creativity kick in. As per the re-invented film discussed it’s a hope to open the audience’s eyes to think more on the nation’s children. Children are the future of this nation and if we exposed them to a displayed of hateful remarks and treats against the less fortunate, they will growth with the beliefs that a divided nation is a great nation. Children observed, react to their surroundings and most importantly they mimic their adult role models.
