Every second of every minute of every hour this world is changing, the people in it are changing, everything is changing. Change. A very powerful word with varying definitions, one minute it could be phenomenal, and another it could be ever so destructive. Of course, there are bad changes, but there are also some which are so great, they leave a legacy behind so others can learn from the change and get inspired to make more of them. What's even more important than a change is a changemaker, the ones who creates these changes. Mahatma Gandhi, an icon to many civilians across the globe, continues to inspire the minds of all ages ever since he made notable changes for his country. Gandhi is considered the father of the Indian Independence, he spent twenty years in South Africa fighting against discrimination. He also fiercely went against the British rule and politically rallied against them by using peaceful tactics just to liberate his own country. He was a little man, from appearance, no one thought he was capable of doing so much. But, he proved to everyone in the world that he was capable. Even he stated, “be the change you wish to see in the world,” meaning that one must take action by themselves to see change, one can not count on others to do it for them (Gandhi). Likewise, in the book, Connor questioned the ways of his society, the way Gandhi questioned his. “How could you? Why would you? What kind of people could do this to their kid?” (30). Connor and Gandhi have similar characteristics based on the fact that they're both misfits in their societies.
