The lack of services for disabled college and college-bound students poses an educational and independence barrier. Able-bodied and intelligent individuals who wish to attend a college may be unable to do so. This is because it is quite difficult to arrange attendant care and other services. We suffer silently because our voices are deaf to educational institutions and governments of today. People see only the physical appearances and jump to a hopeless judgment that people with disabilities cannot do what those who are born without disabilities can accomplish.
Ignorance is the main reason for the lack of resources to support persons with disabilities. Lawmakers do not see the need to advocate for disabled citizens because they have not experienced the agonizing hardship of living with a handicap. Students with disabilities face more difficult challenges, sometimes they have trouble meeting their basic needs such as using the restroom and getting out their materials to study. Most students with disabilities either do not go through the K12 experience and are mostly kept at home for various reasons. Those that are lucky enough to make it through the diploma track often find themselves lost because no one provided any resources for them to plan for college. Going to college is already a big financial investment for parents, saving up for college takes patience and a lot of planning.
