Breast Cancer
Breast cancer is the most common type of cancer among women in the world. Even though each patient’s condition is different, breast cancer with the same stage tend to have outlooks that are similar to each other, and they are often treated the same way (1). Like other cancers, breast cancer is ordered by stages according to the size of the tumor and how far the cancer has spread. Pathology reports will incorporate information about the stage of the breast cancer. That is, whether it is limited to one area in the breast, or it has spread to healthy tissues inside the breast or to other parts of the body (2). Determining the stage helps determine the best way to contain and eliminate the breast cancer. Mostly, breast cancer is treated successfully in the early stages (3). Breast cancer is marked by having five stages including stage 0, stage 1, stage 2, stage 3, and stage 4.
First, stage 0 is used to describe non-spreading breast cancers, such as DCIS (ductal carcinoma in situ). In stage 0, there is no confirmation of cancer cells or non-cancerous abnormal cells breaking out of the part of the breast in which they have begun, or getting through to or invading neighboring normal tissue (4). In stage 1 of breast cancer, cancer is apparent, but it is contained to only the area where the first abnormal cells began to develop (5).
