Kristine shares in her book, “Michael and I were sending Jake to school to learn. But his teachers-the people responsible for his education- were telling me they didn’t think he could be taught” (56). I do not understand how an educator would deny education to anyone regardless of their situation. The educational system shouldn’t let this happen; there should be rules that allow student who are autistic to learn in the same environment as other without making them feel as if they’re incapable of learning and making their parents believe that there is no hope. If things like this continue, then autistic kids will have no chance. Jake is a great example of how smart autistic kids are. I do agree that there should be classes in which a child with autism can learn the subjects that do not come easily to them, but to exclude them from the rest of their peers does not seem fair. They might say it would be easier so teachers don’t to waste their time trying to teach the children with autism and those who don’t have autism.
