Bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki “The atomic bombs dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki exploded not only over Japan, but also over America. They caused a deep mutation in American Conscience” (Lifton and Mitchell). On August 6th, 1945, America dropped the atomic bomb, ‘Little Boy,’ on the Japanese city Hiroshima. Three days later, America dropped another bomb, ‘Fat Man,’ on Nagasaki. These two bombs instantly killed thousands of people and spread the poisonous radiational gas all over their cities. The two bombs killed around 200,000 people and left the cities in complete ruins (Hiroshima and Nagasaki Death Toll). This is a very controversial topic, and many people were against the idea of killing countless innocents. Although, in retrospect, the plan did work and Japan surrendered on August 15th, 1945 (History). This event officially ended World War II. World War II started with Germany invading Poland in 1939 and the United States ended up getting caught with the Allies. Japan, an Axis ‘teammate,’ bombed Pearl Harbor in Hawaii in 1941 which made the United States and Japan enemies. As the war raged on, tensions between Americans and the Japanese rose. Serious racism was occurring to any Asian immigrant in the U.S., and there was harsh racist propaganda against them. In the end, Germany surrendered and the war in Europe ended, yet the war in the Pacific pushed on. As WWII was going on, the United States was funding serious money into the research of…
