The impact of the Atomic bomb in World War 2 affected both Japan and the global community.
In 1945 the first atomic bomb was dropped on Hiroshima and later another dropped on Nagasaki. Japan then surrendered in defeat. The impact it left on Japan did not only affect the people in that expanse but it affected the global community. Months before the atomic bomb caused Japan to surrender, Germany had surrendered to its allies a week after the death of Adolf Hitler. Japan was one of the last to surrender triggering the end of the World War. The invention of the atomic bomb triggered a powerful new tactic to war and its use had an immense impact on World War 2. It took seven years for Japan to regain full independence again, after staying quiet for three years. In 1939, the idea for what would be considered the ultimate warfare weapon was created. Albert Einstein informed President Roosevelt of the possibility of making an atomic bomb. (Grant 2005, p.46) In December of 1941, the Manhattan Project started the production of the Atomic bomb that would later destroy Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Four years later, the first atomic bomb was dropped. An atom bomb uses nuclear fusion; the splitting of atoms to cause a destructive explosion. This is roughly equivalent to 12,500 tons of TNT. The explosion destroyed roughly a one mile radius, wiping out the majority of Hiroshima. Hiroshima was a circular and flat landscape therefore being a perfect target in order to create the most damage. Nagasaki received a more powerful bomb although their landscape was cut up by mountains therefore not spreading quite as far and causing less
