Anna states that Mary met every challenge that was thrown her way from, being disowned by her father and being named a bastard, to taking over the kingdom form Lady Jane. Anna believes that Mary’s rule was cut to short by her untimely death. Mary was the only child of King Henry VIII and Catherine of Aragon. She was doted on and highly educated, she was betrothed before she was two but that fell through, when she was older one of the fathers of a suitor was the first person to say that she may be an illegitimate child, because the marriage between Henry and his brothers widow Catherine did not count. Henry eventually divorced Catherine and made it so the Marriage was never valid making Mary a Bastard. Her father Remarried and had a daughter Elizabeth, Henry allowed Mary to be Elizabeth’s lady in waiting, until she was eventually given back her title. When Henry died he had his son Edward VI take the throne, at 15 Edward became ill and passed away, but he purposefully left Mary out of his will and named Lady Jane the new queen. Mary with the help of most of England overthrew Lady Jane and took her rightful place as The First Queen Regnant of England. Though what Mary did during her rule was awful, it is no worse than what others have done in the past. Anna says that what happened to the protestants was “The accepted punishment for Heresy at the time”.
