Bleaching Of Teeth Whitening

Teeth whitening has been around for about 15 years, and the idea of having a whiter smile keeps growing in popularity but with almost any cosmetic fad there is the question: “what is the real price?” Bleaching teeth can be done in a dental office or at home. Dental experts have started to question and test over the years whether teeth whitening products harm the enamel. Two different articles address this controversy and share their studies and results. The journal of clinical and experimental dentistry published the article “Effect of Bleaching Agents on Enamel Surface of Bovine Teeth: A SEM Study” by Dutra et al. (2017). Together the authors make up of graduate students and professors, all from Brazil and with evaluating this study themselves, makes this paper more credible. They want to know if bleaching teeth does change the surface of the enamel due to the popularity of bleaching and the ongoing controversy involved. The authors set up an experiment using 90 bovine teeth and divided them into five groups. The experiment lasted for fourteen days. In group one, they used 10% carbamide peroxide and applied it eight hours a day. Group two used 16% carbamide peroxide which was also used eight hours a day. These images consisted of a visual of the changes in the enamel surface, the tables were used to show the numbers of the experiment.
