As “bodiless souls” as long as they continued to live a Christian life, the Christian thing being to obey their masters, then they would be released of all your pain and misfortune in death and still go to heaven and finally be “free”. Rather than parallel white Christians however, black Christians created their own religious culture that was built emphasizing different cultural views. Views that drew from the Sacred Black Cosmos and African heritage as well as Christianity.
My views on Black religion in America hasn’t changed much but I do find increased comfort and solace in the fact that the Black community didn’t lose their heritage entirely in the mass enslavement and some of the traditions of the Sacred Black Cosmos are reflected in the practice of Christianity by blacks still
