In one of her songs, “flawless” there is a speech in which some issues of inequality are addressed. But, as she is performing this female power song she is sexualizing herself and contradicting the meaning of the song. Not only does she fail to call for social equality, she fails to call for racial equality. Both women rights advocates and black rights advocates have condemned the actions of Beyonce. In addition to helping build the image of women as objects, she has had enhancement surgeries supposedly causing her to appear more white and creating an unachievable look for young black women. From skin bleaching to fat reduction Beyonce has created an idealized version of females which has a deleterious effect on the psyche of young girls all around the world. She addresses this issue of the many pressures placed on women by the media in her self in one of her songs called “Pretty Hurts”. Although seeming to be against the terrible things these pressures cause girls to do, her music videos in fact support them. They are all filled with sexualized versions on a skinny, seemingly perfect women leading to an increased social inequality between men and women. This undermines the idea that a female is able to promote herself and become financially successful without exposing themselves and in the same manner as males. Not only is Beyonce detrimental to the self image of girls around the world as stated prior, but she encourages girls to engage in activities that are ultimately wasteful. This waste occurs by causing girls to be more superficial; they spend more time worrying about what they look like than time spent bettering themselves intellectually or professionally. The “bee hive” would rather be able to do the latest Beyonce makeup trend than read a book. This misdirect of time may in fact contribute to the disparity between men and women in many aspects including socially and economically. Additionally this waste extends to money and where it is spent. The money females spend on products and treatments to better themselves superficially could have been used to some how better their marketable skills. Men aren't out spending forty dollars on this product and sixty on the other; they are out using it for other things which could include schooling or training. The disparity may contribute to the gap in the intellectual equality and job field equality. Although Beyonce may be more detrimental to the feminist movement than beneficial, she has still
