Martel was so intrigued by the details of the story he continued his research by interviewing One of the two men who found Pi after his distressing journey across the pacific, Mr.Okamoto. Mr. Okamoto explained that after hearing of Pi’s situation, alone at sea with a deadly animal it was too much of a miracle to believe, even admitting to telling Pi, “Mr. Patel we don’t believe you.” For them the details just did not add up. they simply could not comprehend how a boy could survive drifting along the ocean with a beast he was taught not to encounter. Science and all logic was against him, Pi was even told several times “No scientist would believe you” However this statement alone was farcical due to the fact that Pi himself was intrigued by science and knew many fat about the way nature and behavior of animals worked.
