Essay On Life Of Pi Religion

Despite following 3 religions, it is Pi’s faith in God and sometimes his doubt in himself that contributes to his survival. Faith is what you believe in and it is a very flexible topic of discussion. Many people have different aspects and ideologies toward faith. Like most people would say, a person should follow only one religion but then there is Pi who follows three religion’s at once, Hindu, Islam, and Christianity. Faith is an extremely important topic in the novel, Life of Pi. If there was no topic of faith in the novel, then it would be really hard to understand some stuff. Also I think having faith in the book was a good idea because then that adds more genres in the book, survival, faith and fiction. He has been the author for 6 more books but they were not a competition at all for Life of Pi, since it has sold over 12 million copies. Mr. Martel says that being unique during writing a book is what really grabs the reader’s attention. He said it himself, “I don’t really agree that I would have sold as many books if it weren’t for the uniqueness of Pi and the book”. Mr. Martel doesn’t take the credit for himself but he gives it to the elderly man he met at the coffee shop but he doesn’t name him. What I think he meant by that is since he used faith and survival to survive is the unique part because it doesn’t matter how physically capable you are of anything, it is your inner consciousness and your mental wellbeing. Mr. Martel’s mother was a Buddhist and she taught Mr. Martel a lot about being positive in life and staying calm. He said he really wanted to bring out the positive side of Pi, which is never giving up even when life was harsh.
