Behavior is a function of something both inside and outside the person in a situation (Hersey et al., 2008, p. 15). The way a person feels about something occurs on the inside first, thus, motives and needs are then reflected in a person’s attitude and personality that can be seen on the outside of a person through actions (Hersey et al., 2008, p. 15). Persons are influenced by situations, and in turn, situations are influenced by persons (Hersey et al., 2008). As a leader, it is important to understand these concepts in order to predict future behavior in an individual or group (Hersey et al., 2008). What causes someone, or what motivates someone to do something, is dependent on the strength of a motive (Hersey et al., 2008, p. 17). In analyzing what motivates people and forms patterns of behavior, I tend to side with Maslow. Psychological motivators or the
