Baking Soda Vs Vinegar Acid

Improved Essays
In the chemical reaction baking soda and vinegar, many different things are happening. When baking soda is added to vinegar almost instantaneously the reaction starts. One of the first observations a white foaming substance. This occurs because one of the products CO2(g) is releasing causing bubbles to form. Once the reaction settles a clear-ish liquid can be seen the products that are left behind to form this liquid are H2O+NaCH3COO(aq). The full balanced chemical equation is CH3COOH+NaCH3CO3---->H2O+CO2+NaCH3COO. This is vinegar+baking soda---->Water+Carbon dioxide+Sodium Acetate. The question that is trying to be answered is, what effect does the ratio of vinegar to baking soda have on the length of time the reaction occurs. This can teach

The Effect of Temperatures on Rate of Reaction of Alka-Seltzer Introduction: A. Background This particular experiment consists of a purpose of finding out the effect of various temperatures on the rate of reaction of the Alka-Seltzer tablets. Alka-Seltzer is a medical drug that acts as a pain reliever or an antacid, which helps neutralize stomach acidity, such as heartburn. Alka-Seltzer is a form of a baking soda which is also known as sodium bicarbonate, (NaHCO₃). When sodium bicarbonate (NaHCO₃) comes in contact with water (H2O), the compound dissociates into two different ions: sodium (Na+) and bicarbonate (HCO₃-) ions.…

In this lab, the percent composition of each component in the mixture was calculated. The mixture contained NaCO, CaCO3, and sand. NaCO or salt had a physical change when it completely dissolved in water. A chemical change occurred when hydrochloric acid was added to CaCO3 or chalk because the mixture changed to a yellow green color. In order to obtain the percent composition, a filtration system was used to separate the sand from the liquid, by straining the solid with the use of filter paper.…

Before mixing, the total mass was 3.2 grams. After mixing the two substances, the combination of the two liquids ended up looking very powdery. We then mixed both combined solutions together in a centrifuge, and when they were mixed, one tube turned red, while the other tube became clear. There was also a white powder at the bottom of the clear tube. This reaction is a chemical change.…

So it's not really a chemical reaction as much as a physical release of small amounts of trapped gas. The soda, a carbonated liquid to begin with, contains lots of pressurized C02. Pop Rocks are pressurized with carbon dioxide, creating tiny pockets of bubbles inside the candy. When the soda is at a higher pressure, it can hold more carbon dioxide. When the soda is opened to the…

Overview: A fair test is conducted to determine how much bicarb soda is needed to extinguish a tea-light candle when mixed with vinegar. When bicarb soda and vinegar are mixed together a chemical reaction is made thus extinguishing a lit candle, the candle is blown out as bicarb soda and vinegar creates carbon dioxide. A candle needs oxygen to burn, however when carbon dioxide is poured above the flame the candle will quickly be put out, as carbon dioxide is a heavier gas. Aim: To determine how much bicarb soda is needed to extinguish a tea-light candle when mixed with vinegar…

In a chemical equation, there are the reactants, which is the part that is changed, and the products, which is what is left over. The reactant side and the product side must have the same quantity of each element. If they do not, the equation must be balanced by using coefficients. Mole ratios can be found by using these coefficients. Mole ratios are conversion factors and can be used to found the amounts of the reactants and the products in a chemical reaction.…
