Who would say “I have more thoughts in an hour then someone has in a day.”? If you guessed a person with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder(ADHD) you are correct. ADHD is a very common abbreviation that is used throughout schools, doctor offices, and homes. This behavioral disorder can be extremely hard to recognize in children. There are many signs for ADHD that match the personality of a school age child. Parents who have a child that shows signs of Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder should consult their family doctor and greatly consider the use of medications. If a child is diagnosed with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, medication could improve their quality of life drastically.
Six point four million children are diagnosed with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder in the United States alone according to Healthline Media. The rate for Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder continues to increase year by year, Center for Disease Control (2016) states, “Rates of ADHD diagnosis increased an average of 3% per year from 1997 to 2006 and an average of 5% per year from 2003 to 2011” (par.3). According to Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (2016), “Less than 1 in 3 children with ADHD received both medication treatment and behavioral therapy” (par. 2).
