Throughout the art show I was impressed by all the students and what they were capable of doing even with a disability. Although being deaf does not directly affect artistic skills the disability did not stop the students from doing the best they could. Most of the art pieces were better than anything I could do and like any artist they put a lot of pride into their work. My feelings did not change because I knew the students were just as capable of making amazing pieces like any artists, but my feelings did change in the fact that it is easier to interact with people that are different than you that you would expect. By the end of the show there was not really any difference between me and anyone there because we were all there to interact and communicate through the art. The article "Culture of the Dead Community- Differences and Similarities with the Hearing Community" stated several instances where deaf people are prejudice to hearing people and vice versa. The most important thing I learned about myself is that although it is a known prejudice for hearing people to believe that the deaf have problems with communication this does not have to be true. I have learned that although I am not the best as signing I can still communicate. I have to understand that we are different, but we can easily communicate in the same world.
