The sarcastic tone of the title, marked by the three trailing dots, fallaciously suggests to the audience that a “great” debate about gay-marriage does not exist. Since it is read prior to interpretation and establishes a schema, the cartoon’s title is manipulated to emphasize to the audience that any debate against gay marriage is invalid. Moreover, Beeler denies the legitimacy of the men’s debates on the left panel by comparing the debate to the women’s irrelevant debate on the right panel. Beeler’s political cartoon fails to properly address any argument associated with same-sex marriage as valid other than his own. This closed-minded attitude of the cartoonist does not promote critical thinking and induces unexamined
