Archimedes Accomplishments

Archimedes was a mathematician, physicist, astronomer, engineer and inventor. Archimedes was the first big mathematician, as well as consider the best mathematician of that era. Archimedes was born in the Greek city-state of Syracuse. His father, Phidias, was an astronomer. The fact that his father was an astronomer made him motivated to do all the inventions he did. He was really close to King Hieron and his son, Gelon. He worked for them, when he lived in Alexandria. He invented the sciences of mechanics and hydrostatics, the center of gravity, calculated pi to the most precise value known, produced formulas to calculate the areas of regular shapes, and the Archimedes screw. Only mentioning some, he got a lot more of inventions and discoveries that we still use now a days. Archimedes spent a considerable amount of time at Alexandria, where he may had studied with the successors of Euclid. Archimedes spent most of his life in Syracuse, but spend some time at Alexandria because every important document or discovery was in the library of Alexandria. Those documents and discoveries helped him to achieve a lot of things he achieves during his life. When he returned to Syracuse after spending some time in Alexandria, Archimedes lives a life entirely devoted to mathematical research. He died at the age of 75 in his hometown, Syracuse.
