Poseidon is the second greatest of the 12 Greek gods of Olympus, he is the ruler of the sea, earthquakes and is known as the fertility god. Even though Poseidon is one of the supreme rulers in Olympus the sea is his domain. He was worshipped as an Olympian god during the Bronze Age in Greece (the second millennium). Poseidon is the brother of Hades and Zeus, “divided the power of the world” (Sellers). They all took their places, Zeus ruled the sky while hades controlled the underworld. “Poseidon received the sea as his domain” and all its water both fresh and salt (Felson). Poseidon is also the creator of all sea creatures and he can control them with the mercy of his will. Poseidon was known for his anger and hatred, and that usually accompanied merciless violence. He could turn the tables and be kind, however, he could also be cruel-hearted, especially in situations that didn’t meet his standards. Poseidon could often be very helpful, “he even helped the Greeks win the Trojan War” even though Zeus had forbidden Olympians from doing so (Sellers). Although when he was angry he would use his trident for destruction causing earthquakes, floods, and huge tidal waves. This resulted in large amounts of death. Poseidon also decided which ships had safe voyage in his seas and the ships he didn’t allow would be destroyed. As for Poseidon's appearance, he can usually be wearing a large crown. Poseidon also “ drove a horse-drawn chariot and carried a three-pronged spear called a trident”(Felson). The crown is just meant for decoration whereas if Poseidon was to lose his trident he would have no power.posiedon has long pure white hair which is an indication of his old age, he is also very fit, like many of the Greek gods
