In the novel Animal Farm, written by George Orwell, one of the most important characters is a pig named Squealer. Squealer is a negative manipulator, a coward, and a follower. In the novel, Squealer expresses his manipulative ways in the quotation “ I trust that every animal here appreciates the sacrifice that Comrade Napoleon has made in taking this extra labour upon himself . . . no one believes more firmly than Comrade Napoleon that all animals are equal . . . surely, comrades, you do not want Jones back?”( Orwell 41). Before Squealer gave this explanation to all of the animals, Napoleon had ordered the vicious dogs to attack Snowball. Napoleon wanted to get rid of Snowball because he and Snowball always argued about every little thing, and Napoleon always wanted everything his way. The dogs then chased Snowball out of the farm. After this happened, all the animals were in shock and a bit frightened by what Napoleon had just done. Napoleon then ordered Squealer to explain to everyone and to make everyone think that what he had done was right. He wanted the animals to believe that he really was a better leader than Snowball, when he was not. In this quotation, Squealer knows just what to say and how to say it so that he could manipulate all the animals into believing this. He tells the animals that Napoleon really cares about their safety, when, in reality, all Napoleon wants to attain is power. Squealer uses the word “sacrifice” to express what Napoleon had done by…
