One of these events is when Benedetto is reborn, in a sense, as “Viscount Andrea Cavalcanti, son of Major Bartolomeo Cavalcanti...’”(Pg 236). He had a dark past, but it is all put behind him when he takes the role of the young Italian prince. Instead of being known as a shady criminal, he becomes a wealthy prince and famous part of Paris’ view on Italian Royalty.
The second key event that helps shape Cavalcanti is when he meets Caderousse on the way back from the dinner with the Count of Monte Cristo. Caderousse injects the criminal drive back into Andrea, encouraging him by saying “‘all you have to do is find a way for me to earn the thirty thousand francs for myself without involving yourself in any way.’”(pg.325-326). It is as if the devil is speaking into his ear, prompting him to go back to his criminal ways. Even if Cavalcanti does not want Caderousse to be part of his life anymore, the fact that they used to be good friends prevents him from walking
