The soul Ka accompanied the body throughout your life. After you had died the Ka removed itself from the body and goes to the Lake of Two Fields. They believed that the soul Ba would look over their family. While the soul Ka stayed in the Land of Two Fields during the day to enjoy the Afterlife. However the combination of the souls Ba and Ka was the Akh. The Akh will only be formed if the proper rituals are performed by the scribe. So, instead of only the Ka removing itself from the body both the Ba and Ka separated from the body coming together to form the Akh.
