I can speak from experience because my mother for the past 2 years has had this illness. I can’t speak directly about having the illness because I'm not walking in her shoes. I can talk about how her life looked from the outside and how this allergy affected my life and my family’s life. My mother and I used to go on a cruise every single year in August. We went to so many different places like Canada, Jamaica, Puerto Rico, Cayman Island and Grand Turk. For the last three years though we were not able to go because of my mom’s allergy. My mom has a rare airborne seafood allergy. Which basically meaning she can not smell or be around any form of seafood without having to use her Epipen and be rushed to the hospital. Having this illness has really put a damper on her social life. My mom loves to travel so having this barrier stopping her has put her into a state of depression. Seeing my mother so stressed out and uncomfortable with being in the house for months on end because she’s so sick she can’t move out of bed caused me to stress out. My mother and I would always have heart to heart talks whenever she is feeling low which isn’t often because she knows I’ll worry all day about her and won’t do anything else. During our talks I would always tell her that “ God gives his toughest battles to his strongest warriors and we can beat this together.” If people of society would just be more aware and have a better understanding of what these individuals are going through then more progress would be made. Maybe they would speak up and make organizations to fund the research towards this allergy and contribute to making people with anaphylaxis lives
