Anaphylaxis Journal Entry

This week’s journal entry serves the purpose of analyzing the Mylan healthcare’s website on anaphylaxis, and compare it with best practices for usability, accessibility, credibility, and consistency, as I would if I were a member of a communications department at Mylan healthcare. The web is an important medium of communication as it combines all types of other communication which came before it (Lester, 2012). As other forms of media, the web can also be a valuable resource for information and change, but the effectiveness and success of a website may hinder upon the audience’s perspective of the website. First and foremost a website has to grasp the audience’s attention, and provide content which is interesting, applicable, and befitting for the targeted audience. The title of the webpage sits to the left of the page saying “get schooled in” with “anaphylaxis” bolded in red, yet it really does not stand out in an attention getting way. As there is a box directly below sharing information on what anaphylaxis is, direction to a “resource library,” information about the campaign, and where to get updates, I feel the websites developer was placing more emphasis on the center of the page and downloads which contains information for download. As visually, this may direct a person to find out more about anaphylaxis, I question if anaphylaxis may be too difficult a medical term for the audience to comprehend.
