I will be comparing the poem Marks by Linda Pastan and Barbie Doll by Marge Piercy. First, to start off both of the poems titles have to do something with body image, and how everyone views us. The setting of each poems are not made very clear, I see them from a mid 20s woman married in Marks by Linda Pastan and a younger girl going through middle school or high school with Barbie Doll by Marge Piercy. I think each poem is narrated by women for two reasons, one it was written by a woman and two it is about body image and I think that is a topic that leans more to females in general. Both of these poems are telling a story about what it is like to be a female with insecurities about appearance, personality, and always wanting to be the best they can be. Each of these poems is telling a different story but I think they are very similar when looking at in from a young woman 's point of view.
Each of these titles can have the different meaning from Barbie Doll by Marge Piercy view of that girls play with dolls, and lean towards more of the poem being about a female’s life.In the poem Marks by Linda Pastan the narrator talks about a husband right in the first line, so assuming that it could be talking about the struggles it is to be a wife and how not every day is perfect that 's why she is using the grading system for her life.Each title seems similar to be because in today 's society being the perfect wife and having the perfect family is always a struggle, but besides that,…
