The first amendment in the constitution lists the freedoms we have as citizens. We have the rights to practice any religion, freedom of speech and press, the right to assemble and the right to petition government. We have all these freedom however; it took many years for us to be able to obtain these freedoms. Steven Johnson wrote an article called Watching T.V makes You Smarter. He basically explains how the quality of television shows have increased, making us cognitively smarter, freeing us from mindless television. Thomas Jefferson wrote The Declaration of Independence which lists the reasons why we wanted to be free from British rule. Even though Jefferson exposed the British government, he freed us from the abuses we endured under their sway. Steven Johnson and Thomas Jefferson have both showed that their arguments have informed the public of their experiences on account of higher quality television making you smarter, the Declaration of Independence listing the wrongdoings of the British government and the liberty to act how one pleases. In the article Watching T.V Makes You Smarter, Steven Johnson argues that the complexity of television series shown today make those that watch them, smarter. “I believe that the sleeper curve is the single most important new force altering the mental development of young people today, and I believe it is largely a force for good: enhancing our cognitive faculties, not dumbing them down.” (Johnson 121) This means that the sleeper…
