Then in 1970 he uses Polaroid camera to make his own photographs to make collages, saying he felt "it was more honest." I like one think about Mapplethorpe is that he sticks to his opinion whether the majority likes it or not and I can relate to that and this is the main reason why I chose him for my assignment. In my upcoming paragraphs I will go over several points in the artists form for example, I will be discussing what type of lines he uses, what type of color was used in it, what is the focus on this masterwork and what type of design was used to make that masterwork?
Robert Mapplethorpe was born in November 4, 1946. He was known as “American photographer who was noted for austere photographs of flowers, celebrities, and male nudes; among the latter were some that proved controversial because of their explicitly homoerotic and sadomasochistic themes” (Robert Mapplethorpe). Just like in his artwork he tells a story that it is difficult to see the gender of the person on this photo graph because it is in black and white. He is wearing a black leather jacket with dark color shirt under. He is smoking a cigarette, I can tell that because it clearly show that the cigarette it lit. He is likewise depicting a lighthearted and truly loose looking hairdo from the 50 's. It makes me feel as he was attempting to address the future through the past. While he is wearing a captured shirt the neckline is clearly erect in the photo. I feel as though the craftsman was attempting to show a feeling of resistance in this picture. Not an ordinary demonstration of defiance in savagery, but rather one against customary, standard craftsmanship. Mapplethorpe was especially so against being standard. I believe cigarette is the iconography of stress relief. I am conjecturing this because whenever I asked people who smoke, that’s what have they said. People have said that this is the only thing that can relief my stress, so based on that opinion I think that Mapplethorpe uses cigarette as a piece of
