Martin Luther’s 95 Theses
The 1500’s the Roman Catholic church was the prevailing religion and controlling force across most of Europe. The church was far from perfect though they required people to pay for salvation as well as many of the leaders had greed for money for themselves and not to help the people.(Alloway). Martin Luther was a devoted follower and priest in the Catholic church. Luther found many things that were wrong in the church and needed to be changed and updated. He expressed these concerns in his 95 theses which he wrote on October 31 1517. 2).He was also the Priest of the church of Wittenberg which meant that he had vast knowledge of the Bible. 3).This furthered his credibility because he was able to read and write which many people could not do at that time. 4).He used the Bible well because after some of his theses he would include verses from the Bible that backed up his point made in that particular line. 5).He did this because during this time people had to take the priest's word for what they said was in the Bible. 6). He focuses his writing on one main point and that being that people are saved by faith and not by paying money. 2).This helps him to build emotion in the crowd because many people gave all their money to the church and were living in terrible conditions because of it. 3).Luther say this “2).Only God can give salvation – not a priest”(Luther). 4). This creates a feeling of happiness that they did not need to pay but were saved by the grace of God alone. 5). This also created anger because the people who had given everything they had to the church did not need to do that and the church leaders had plenty of money but were not willing to give it
