How would you like it if you knew that you were being treated unjustly? No one likes to be treated unjustly. No matter what your race may be or what gender you are; everyone should be treated fairly. For the world to have a moral society, people have to treat each other fairly, regardless of their biases. When people base their opinions on one aspect of a person, they begin to judge them and look down on them, and no one enjoys being looked down upon. Both men and women in this society should be treated and looked upon equally. People should not treat a specific person differently just because of their gender. Though, there are reasons people don’t trust a certain race and those who believe women should not be applying for untraditional job types. Many people are bias against a certain race because of an incident regarding someone of that race doing something bad and/or harmful to others on television. But that way of thinking is not fair to the other decent people in that specific race. According to the United States Census, African Americans make up about 15% of the population, and Whites make up about 80% of the population. For people who are racially bias toward the African American population because of the thought that African Americans are all criminals, they need to see that African Americans don’t make up a large part in the US to be causes all of the problems. Being racially bias for any reason isn’t kind and should not be present in a moral society. A just society would allow equal rights regardless of gender. People who do not believe that women should be applying for untraditional jobs are still living in the past. However, this nation gives the right for women to become whatever they desire, and that is justice. Many people are so used to females being in charge. According the Gallop study on business owners, in 2000, 48% of workers prefer a male boss, then female. In 1953, 66% preferred male over female (Vagianos). Within the Black Panther Party, women were treated with the same cold, harsh attitudes that the men were treated. In Assata’s case, her gender did not give her any sort of advantage over her male counterparts. In some instances, it even put her at a higher risk for abuses to take place, which eventually led her to decide to leave the party for good. When Assata first entered the Black Panther Party, she was extremely excited to become a revolutionary.…

In this era, I truly believe that people of color have a lot to lose due to labeling and stereotyping because it adds to the lose of socio-economic benefits. In The Mark of a Criminal Record, Devah Pager states “While Whites were offered more jobs than Blacks and applicants with no criminal history were offered more jobs than those who had served time, even Whites with criminal pasts were more likely to be hired than Blacks who had led law-abiding lives”(Pager p.217). This quote from Pager is significant in that it shows that labels and stereotypes are common amongst the work force. Even if a person of color is qualified for a job, the likeliness of them being hired decreases because of their skin pigment. Now that these types of discrimination…

Peaceful resistance to laws positively impacts a free society. However, achieving the result that one is seeking through such means can take years and require perseverance, determination and unfailing dedication to the cause. In addition, operating within a fundamentally just government, or a free society, is significant for this to proceed successfully because it suggests that a sound foundation already exists from which growth may evolve. Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr. clearly stated his beliefs regarding “just and unjust” laws in his famous “Letter from the Birmingham Jail.”…

Does society play a role into feeling unaccepted in today’s culture? Many would say that our country as a whole has gotten better at accepting those who are different than the “normal”, but if this were the case then why do people feel pressured to pass? In the book, Passing When People Can’t Be Who They Are, Brooke Kroeger explained passing as, “Passing involves erasing details or certain aspects of a given life in order to move past perceived, suspected, or actual barriers to achieve desired ends.” (8) As you can see passing means to act as something you believe yourself not to be, like putting on a front. Reasons as to why someone of color would want to pass as a different race, could be issues like; society, white privilege, and safety.…

The wage gap in America is still a problem that affects thousands of women and most importantly women of color, today. Many women have been a victim of the wage gap between men and women and many think it’s not fair and we should all be equal. A wage gap is when an individual gets paid more or less than another person for the equal amount of labor. Other countries around the world are already beyond this point and have equal pay between women and men. Countries like Italy, Norway, Slovenia, and France are already ahead of us even though we are considered a “modern” country.…

Out of these minority groups: African-American, Pacific Islander, and Hispanic, the total earnings gap is significantly lower than the White female, which is significantly lower on average than that of the White male. However, Asian American women are the only female minority group that makes more than White women, and in some cases, makes more than White men. Out of all the minority groups, why does the Asian American make more than her other female counterparts? It appears that there is a correlation between education and total earnings, since the female Asian American statistically gets a higher education; she…

Disheartening are many measures of the opportunities and difficulties faced by African Americans and, to a lesser extent, White Americans (cite). Social inequality continues to be characterized by unequal opportunities within different social groups. Being a white person in America you are automatically distinguished as “normal,” privileged, and the dominant group. 4 in 10 businesses worldwide do not even have women in senior management, which demonstrates that this gender discrimination happens in every continent. Employers are weary of hiring women because they question women’s commitment to their profession, thinking they will miss work due to family or pregnancy. Some male executives assume that because women are stereotypically gentle and compassionate, they would not be able to make tough decisions. However, this stereotype has been put to rest, because many females in leading positions tend to be harsh in order to prove to their male counterparts that they can get the job done. Being hired as a woman of colour is seemingly more difficult than that of a caucasian woman.…
