In America people still come together to protect others freedoms. Take for instance the recent shooting of unarmed African Americans by police. People of different races, religions, and cultures came together and protested the wrongful murders of the African Americans. One could also fine Americans come together in civic participation both their local governments and nongovernment associations for repairs to the city, donations to charity, and school and community involvements. Unconscious the individual American still feels a connection to their fellow man in time of trouble and to improve their community. Radical individualism does hurt democracy. Democracy works when all of the people of the state come together to change public policies. Americans do help each other; however, most Americans do not feel like one collective group of people. Instead of see everyone as Americans, people see themselves and "others" and they all live in the same country. One way to counteract radical individualism is to improve equality in the United States. America has a high level of inequality and people do not trust people from different social classes. If equality was to improve people would feel they could trust others and would not feel they have to look out only for their selves. Hudson believes a communitarian movement will have a reforming impact on excessive individualism and promotes community-regarding policies. I do
